Teams: Lakeside Relay

Saturday, 02 September 2023: Lake Roto Kohatu

A great warm up for the National Road Relay!

Set in a beautiful lake environment, this is a great course over a range of terrains. While predominately tar seal & gravel roads there are grassy tracks in places.

The course has a few undulations, but overall considered to be very fast and runnable for all runners. Road shoes are recommended.

FINAL CALL FOR ENTRIES: Kennett Cup / South Island XC Championship

Saturday, 15 July 2023

CLUB ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED. ON THE DAY ENTRIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR $20 CASH.

The South Island Cross Country Championships incorporating the Kennett Cup Steeples is a cross country event of various distances based on a two kilometers lap with a shorter 1k lap for events of odd number distances. There is one steeple at end of the first lap, then two steeples per lap. These steeples are wider and more stable than sprint hurdles at 750mm high with one lower rail that small athletes can climb on.

The rule is that you choose to either go over a steeple (taking the shortest line) or run around far end (long cut). With three steeples width, it’s probably 9m extra to go around the end. Works out about even on the energy used!

The Kennett Cup allows the jump technique to be whatever you want, as long as go over each steeple or around the long cut way. Runners can step, swing their legs over, or vault using their hands, the variety of techniques makes it extra interesting as a spectator event!

Junior start from 1:15 (see website for age group starts)

Women 18+ start at 2.00pm

Men 18+ start at 2.40pm

For more details, check out the race website here

Club entries are now closed but if you are keen to race, you still can. Please take $20 cash and register on the day
