Which entry fees will be paid for by the club?
Any event which is part of the Winter Club of the Year competition. These are usually the same each year and are marked with an asterix on the Athletics Canterbury Winter Programme. For 2021 they are:
|Hagley Memorial Relays||Lionel Fox Relays||Rawhiti Races (Jane Paterson)||Andrew Reese Relays|
|Holloway Cross Country||Kennett Cup||Canterbury Cross Country Champs||Lakeside Relays|
|Canterbury Road Champs||Port Hills U/18||Governors Bay to Lyttelton||Takahe to Akaroa Relay|
How do I enter races?
Entry forms for races will be posted to our club website approximately 2 weeks before the race. Simply fill out the form before the cut off date. Subscribe to our website to get notifications about race entry.
How do I enter relays?
Entry forms for relays work the same as for races. Simply fill out the form and the club captains will put together the teams. If you have a preference for a particular leg there will be a space to add that request on the form. Teams will be posted on our club website once entries have closed.
Relays are obviously team events and must have a full set of runners to count. Running twice means the team (or teams) will be DQ’d, so if you find you have to withdraw from a relay please consider the affect on your team mates. Try to find a replacement and then let your club captain know.
Do I have to wear club uniform?
Yes. A Sumner Running Club singlet or t-shirt needs to be worn at all Athletics Canterbury events. It is also great to see it worn at other events, so use it whenever and wherever you can.
Am I expected to run every race?
No, you get to choose the events you would like to run. Athletics Canterbury runs a ‘Champion of the Season’ grade competition so the more events you run the more points you will score. And any adult who competes in all ‘Club of the Year’ events from the Lionel Fox on earns a participation reward.
It is expected that if you enter an event, then you do compete.
Where do I get my registration number?
Once you have registered and been assigned a number it will be given to the club to distribute. See your club captain to get your number. Hold on to this for the whole season. You must wear this at all races during the season, except for relays where team numbers will be used and available from the club tent when you arrive.
