Governor’s Bay to Lyttelton

The popular Governor’s Bay to Lyttelton Road Race will take place again this year under level 2 conditions. Please check the race website to get the most up to date information. It will be wise to check this again on Friday 17th Sept to confirm your start time and conditions that apply to your wave.

Entries have to be in this week as the handicappers have a huge job grading everyone according to their estimated 10k time combined with what race results this year tell them your form really is :-). Please enter your realistic 10k time in mm:ss format to help calculations eg. 29:15, 45:00, 62:45.

While you are on the website don’t forget to enter the Takahe to Akaroa relay and email Lockie at sumnerrunningclub@gmail.com if you can no longer run the Canterbury Road Champs this coming Saturday 11th Sept.

Entry deadline has been extended but is absolutely final. You miss it – don’t ask! :-)

Entries Close Sunday 12 Sept 4:00pm

Canterbury Cross Country Champs

After such a great turnout at the Kennett Cup, can we beat those numbers for the Canterbury Cross Country Championships at Halswell Quarry. This is the last of the cross country events before we move to the road based part of the season. The event date is Saturday 24 July (the last weekend of the holidays) with first race start 1:05pm. Check out the event details here.

We usually have a good representation of runners in the Canterbury team, and being so close this year we encourage you to have a look. Canterbury is keen to have full teams across the age groups, so check it out and put your nomination form in if you want to experience the camraderie and excitment of a National Championships. The club financially supports all those representing Canterbury.

Entries close Monday 19th July at 8:00pm

Kennett Cup Steeples

The Kennett Cup is considered the South Island Champs and is the first event on the calendar to offer medals. It kicks off at 1:15pm on Saturday 10th July with the U14 & U16 grades. The Ascot Park course contains steeples which allow you a slightly shorter route or you can go flatter and longer around them. More information regarding the event can be found here.

Entries need to be in by 7:00pm Monday 5th July.

Holloway Memorial Cross Country

The Holloway is organised by Sumner and has traditionally been one of the harder races on the calendar by being a bit longer and having ‘hills’! It’s a great course at Motukarara and ideal for mud larks if we get a bit of rain. If you intend run in a grade out side your normal age grade please write this in the comments box.

Information about the race, start times and distances, can be found here.

Entries must be in by Monday 21st June 8:00pm

Andrew Reese Memorial Relay

The new location in Rangiora was due for its first outing last year but events led to the inaugural efforts of the North Canterbury club being cancelled, so it will be a new experience for everyone this year on the 12th June.

The 4 x 5 km relay for Masters and Seniors, and 4 x 2 km for Juniors is the familiar format used here though distances are ‘guides’. It looks like these legs might be slightly longer, but a lot faster than the sandy terrain of the Lionel Fox.

Details of the event can be found here. Parking is on Millton Ave – drive through Rangiora on Ashley Rd towards the river and look for signs.

Rawhiti Cross Country Races 2021

Saturday 22nd May 2021

Entries close Monday 17th May 7pm

The Rawhiti Cross Country Races incorporating the Jane Paterson Cup caused controversy last year when Sumner weren’t awarded the cup despite having the fastest 6 man team. This year we can confirm that masters as well as senior athletes will count for the open race so it would be good to “defend” the trophy this year. All the information and history of the event can be found here.

This year there is a short course option available for all over 18 runners. This is an Open race of 4.5km which you can choose to do if you don’t fancy the longer distance of your age grade race. Just select this on the form and we will enter you in that.
