The club will have its Open Day on Saturday 17th April meeting at the Clock Tower in Sumner at 2:00pm. There will be a number of run groups from those wanting to do a Capt. Thomas loop to those happy with an Esplanade and beach run. Committee members will be there to answer any questions. This is an ‘open’ event so club members, friends and family are all welcome. At 3:00pm we will meet at the Village Inn in Sumner for a post run get together.
Hagley Memorial Relay
The first event on the calendar is the Hagley Memorial Relay this year being held on ANZAC Day, Sunday 25th April. Early autumn usually provides ideal running conditions and Hagley Park provides a flat firm surface to crack out a fast time. Always good to start with a relay so click the entry button below and we will get teams sorted. You don’t have to be registered to enter this race.
Sumner Running Club AGM
Not as scary as it sounds, and we encourage all members to come along. A brief review of the past season is given by David Fitch the club president, and hearing all the achievements of the club condensed into one summary reinforces how remarkable the club is in the depth of results and events members participate in. Club officers and committee members are elected, and we always welcome new input. A description of the various roles and jobs undertaken by the committee will be posted to the website next week. Please have a look at this and think about whether you would be happy taking on any of those tasks. Nibbles will be provided to help sustain you through the 30 – 40 minutes of the meeting :-)
Hanmer Half-marathon & 10k
For those interested in an autumn alpine run the Hanmer Half is on the 1st May. They have a 10k and 5k option as well as the half-marathon. Sumner athletes have a great record in this event and it is a good chance to get together in a top notch running and biking environment. While we are not organizing group accommodation this year a number of club members are staying at the Kakapo Lodge YHA, which is close to the pools and the township if you are looking for a place to stay overnight. A group meal and a ride or run on Sunday will definitely be on the cards. Info on the event can be found here.
